ADVENTURES OF WILD HAIR

Our land life took on form, solidity, routine. We had mastery of a limited set of skills. We had habitual expectations of others and ourselves. Going sailing, we let go of our attachments to our roles, views, and rituals. We persist because we are growing in this shapeless and dynamic world.

Our cruising life is filled with:

  • Smells of the ocean meeting land
  • Shooting stars
  • Charts
  • Weather reports crackling across the ionosphere
  • Skimming, flying fish
  • Trust
  • Kindness between spouses
  • Kindness from strangers
  • Swimming
  • Experiencing ourselves as both predators and prey
  • Silence
  • The sounds of happy children, barking dogs, and persistent roosters
  • Pinkish, powdery sand
  • Surprises
  • Beaming white smiles from dark faces
  • Sunsets
  • Romance
  • Sunscreen, cinnamon toes, and childhood freckles
